Visit to Morgan Motor Company in Malvern Worcester, organized by Ralph Carpenter, was enjoyed by all who attended. It took place on Monday 10th. March 2014 and all involved travelled by car sharing, which was cheaper than hiring a bus.
A good buffet lunch was enjoyed on arrival, followed by a short introductory talk, after which, our party was split into two groups, for the factory guided tour. The tour lasted for two and a half hours and showed us every aspect of their hand assembled production methods. We also saw the making of the wooden frames as well as the making, by hand, of the metal body panels. In fact we saw every aspect of manufacture of many different models, as well as their newly introduced three wheeler. We were allowed to get very close to the craftsmen and apprentices as they worked and ask questions about all aspects of their work. Everything was explained to us by our guides, who willingly answered any questions that we asked.
In some ways it was like being transported back some 100 years in the factory, with a true family atmosphere. There are many cases of two generations of one family working there in 2014, with I think some cases of three generations. But the finished cars were of 21st. century quality and technology, with orders coming in from all over the world.
In total, our party was 26, with only 7 being from CWWAM. The othe 19 were either spouses, friends of members or friends of friends, but all had an interest in these unique hand made sports cars.
I'm know that everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed this day out with a difference.
